A busy cruise ship day in St. John's....Artania also arrives

Also arriving in St. John's Sept 22, 2012, the Artania arrived and secured at the upper end of the harbor. the ship, the fomer Royal Princess and Artemis is owned by the Phoenix Reison fleet and was built in Finland, she was christened by Diana, Princess of Wales in 1984.
The ship is 756 feet, and has a maxium passenger capacity of 1,260. The Artania arrived around a half hour after the Emerald Princess.

Emerald Princess...surprise visit

Although not scheduled to arrive, the Emerald Princess arrived in St. John's this morning and tied up at the watrerfront.

The ship put into to St. John's to get out of a storm in the North Alantic, a sister ship to the Caribbean Princess which visited here a couple of weeks ago, she is quite large at 951 feet, and built in 2006. she is carrying over 3000 passengers.

The World arrives

The cruise liner The World arrived in St. John's Sept 18, 2012. Serving a residential community the ship is owned by its residents, the residents are from 40 different countries live onboard as the ship travels the globe

The ship is 644 feet long and 97 feet wide, was launched in 2002 in Norway.

Cristobal Colon

The Cristobal Colon arrived in St. John's Sept 10, 2012 ahead of the storm and tied up at pier 17. The Colon is the largest and most high tech dredger in the world today, she is slated to do some work on the Whiterose field off Newfoundland.
The Colon is 223 meter's long and 42 meter's wide, she was built in 2009 and has a gross tonnage of 59,466, she flies a flag of Luxembourg. The photos were tkane Sept 13, 2012.

The Italian registered cruise ship Aidaluna has cancelled its visit to St. John's for Sept 13, 2012 due to the hurricane that is slowly making its way toward Newfoundland

Cruise Ship Eurodam cancels its stop in St. John's

Holland America's cruise ship the Eurodam has cancelled its stop in St. John's for Monday Sept 10, 2012 due to the hurricane activity in the Atlantlic thats according to the city of St. John's website.

A Busy day in St. John's

Wednesday this past week Sept 5, 2012 was a great day for ship watching in St. John's. The Caribbean Princess was already in port, then the Geo Caribbean, a research vessel registered in norway arrived. She was followed by the Thor Omega, which was followed by the George R. Pearkes.

The Geo Caribbean was built in 2008, and is 101 meter's. This was her second visit, the first I missed. the vessel was doing work on the oil filed off Newfoundland.




The Thor Omega, is a support vessel built in 2008 and registered in the Faroe Islands, is a lot smaller at 55 meter's, that ship was supporting the Geo Caribbean.

CCGS George R. Pearkes

Sept 5, 2012 proved to be a great day for ship watching in St. John's. One ship I photographed was the Canadian coast Guard Ship George R. Pearkes arriving. she was third to enter the harbor, the first two being the Geo Caribbean and the Thor Omega, which I will post photos soon..


The Pearkes commissioned in 1986 and built in 1986 is a type 1100, light icebreaker and buoy tender, she is 272 feet long. The Pearkes operted in the Pacific and quebec regions, before being transferred to the Newfoundland and Labrador region in 2004.

Another Cruise Visit

The cruise ship Quest for Adventure arrived in St. John's Sept 6, 2012. This is the third cruise ship to visit in as many days.

The Quest for Adventure is smaller measuring 165 meter's, built 1981, she flies a Malta flag, she carries 512 passengers.

Caribbean Princess pays a visit


Princess cruise lines Caribbean Princess arrived in St. John's Sept 5, 2012. At 290 meters, she is quite a large ship for the harbor in St. John's. She can carry 3,080 passengers, made her maiden voyage in 2006, she has a max speed of 21 knots, she has a draft of almost 28 feet.

The fishing vessel Newfoundland Explorer shown in this photo in St. John's aug 29, 2012. the vessel built in 1992 at Glovertown, Newfounsland at the Glovertown Shipyard is 211 Gross Tons.

Lyubov Orlova still in

The Russian ship Lyubov Orlova shown in this photo on sept 2, 2012 has been in St. John's since Sept 2010,
I did notice a crane alongside, and the ships cargo hatch up, but nothing since. I'm not sure when the ship will be leaving.

The fishing vessel All Jacks shown secured in St. John's Sept 2, 2012. The vessel was formerly the Rosemary G1, was built in 1988, in Clarks Harbor, Nova Scotia and is owned by JRS Fisheries (2002) LTD.
The vessel is made of reinenforced plastic, 12.59 Meter's long and is 48.03 GT

Taking on fuel

The Canadian Coast Guard ship Ann Harvey shown in this photo taking fuel Sept 2, 2012. The vessel built in 1987 in Halifax, Nova Scotia is named after the daughter and brother hepl rescue 160 crew and passangers from a ship that went aground.


The Ann Harvey is a buoy tender, icebreaker and also handles search & Rescue, fisheries enforcement.
