LOUIS S ST. LAURENT departs St. John's

The CCGS LOUIS S ST. LAURENT departed St. John's July 20, 2009 bound for Resolute, ETA July 29, 2009
This is the first time this ship has left St. John's, (her new home port), bound for the Arctic.
While in the Arctic, she will be doing some mapping of the ocean floor in the Northwest Passage, the continental shelf. Capt. Andrew McNeil says the ship will be collecting bathymetric and seismic data, and will work in the North untail October when it will return to St. John's

AUSTRALIAN NAVY VISITS ST. JOHN'S, HMAS BALLARAT


The HMAS SYDNEY and HMAS BALLARAT visited St. John's this past week along with the HMCS VILLE DE QUEBEC.
This is the first time the Australian Navy visited St. John's,they will travel to 13 countries and 16 ports, St. John's being the first North American port, they departed July 8, 2009 for Halifax and then to New York.

ICEBREAKERS LEAVE FOR THE ARCTIC


The icebreakers TERRY FOX and HENRY LARSEN have both departed St. John's for the Arctic. The Terry Fox departed June 29, 2009 and the HENRY LARSEN departed July 2, 2009.
